On Sunday, May 6, the Calumet Chamber Musicians will present a Family Concert entitled “Something Old, Something New” at the Towle Community Theater on Sunday, May 6th. Live music—especially classical music—has become a rarity in our children's lives. Calumet Chamber Musicians’ family concerts are relaxed, entertaining, and educational programs that are well-planned and well-rehearsed, with repertoire carefully chosen to be accessible, fun, and interesting. Yet, these are real concerts of real Art music; CCM never condescends to young audiences by watering down their concert experience in any way.

This family concert looks at music through the generations. Why does this baroque piece by Telemann sound different from this modern work by Muczynski? How does this piece by Fauré tell a story? What do these dances by Brahms tell us about a people? What does this work by Norman Rockwell tell us about ourselves? Calumet Chamber Musicians are now in their sixth season of presenting “evocative, accessible, and high quality” The Times classical music concerts in the Calumet Region. This summer they will again present concerts in France, where last year’s performances were called “formidable” by members of composer Igor Stravinsky’s family.

Performance is Sunday, May 6 at 2:00pm. Tickets are only $10. Advance payment required. Tickets non-refundable. Please arrive no later than 15 minutes prior to curtain. If you arrive after curtain, you will be seated at the discretion of the House Manager. We do not hold curtain. Doors are locked at 15 minutes after curtain. The Towle Community Theater will present the Midwest Premiere of “Closet Land”. This drama is based on the highly acclaimed Independent film (1991) by Radha Bharadwaj. The production is directed by Jared Riddle (English and Liberal Arts Chair at Ivy Tech). The demanding roles in the 2 person cast are being portrayed by Scot Kokandy (Hammond) as the Man and KeriAnne Gura (Highland) as the Woman. Performances of the show, which is intended for mature audiences will run May 11-13 and 18-20.

The intense drama follows The Woman, a children’s book writer, who is abducted in the middle of the night and imprisoned for writing subversive literature. She declares her books to be pure fantasies, but her well-dressed inquisitor, The Man, sees the books as allegorical attacks on the State. In the form of a long dialogue between The Man and The Woman, The Man, through psychological and physical torture, attempts to get The Woman to confess. The Woman endures, refusing to buckle under to The Man's relentless interrogation.

The show is intended for mature audiences. Performances run May 11-13 and 18-20. Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm. Sundays at 2pm. Tickets are $14. Advance payment required. Tickets non-refundable. Please arrive no later than 15 minutes prior to curtain. If you arrive after curtain, you will be seated at the discretion of the House Manager. We do not hold curtain. Doors are locked at 15 minutes after curtain. Call 219-937-8780 for more information or to order tickets.
