RailCats Bringing Back Championship Closer Tony Cogan

Cogan (1-6, 2.77 ERA in 2007) will add a much-needed left-handed arm in the bullpen for fourth year manager Greg Tagert. The 31 year-old southpaw led the Northern League in saves last season, also setting a RailCats’ record for a season with 25 saves in 49 appearances.

The Highland Park, Ill. resident was selected to the 2007 Northern League All-Star Game and pitched an inning of perfect baseball.

Cogan, who also was a teammate of shortstop Jay Pecci at Stanford University, pitched in 39 games for the Kansas City Royals out of the bullpen in 2001. This will be Cogan’s eighth professional season and second with the RailCats spending his first four seasons in the Royals’ organization.

The RailCats begin defense of their 2007 Northern League title on May 15th when they host Joliet in the 2008 season opener. Call (219) 882-2255 for ticket information.
