The Towle Community Theater and NIPSCO present the World Premiere drama “Red Dirt” with exclusive show sponsorship provided by PSST. Directing the final show of the Towle’s 5th Anniversary Season is Managing Director, Jeff Casey. Casey also directed the Towle’s first two ’08 wildly popular musicals: “Musical of Musicals, The Musical” and “No Way to Treat a Lady” and the summer blockbuster “The Fix”. “Red Dirt” is based on the independent film by Tag Purvis. The movie has been adapted for the stage by Casey who has been in constant contact with the writer/director of the independent film. “I am thrilled to be working on this project and to have full artistic license for the adaptation”, Casey said. The cast includes actors from some of the Towle’s previous productions. Playing the lead role of Griffith, the restless young man, is Darek Kowal. Leslie A. Evans is Summer, Griffith’s agoraphobic aunt and the woman who raised him. KeriAnne Gura plays Emily, Griffith’s cousin and only friend. Rounding out the cast is Mary McClelland as Lynn, Emily’s complacent mother and Kevin Bellamy as Lee, the stranger with a “throw caution to the wind” attitude.

“Red Dirt” tells the story of a young man’s search to belong in this sublime expression of love and reconciliation. Locked within the confines of a rural Mississippi town, Griffith is struggling with the responsibilities of caring for his unwell aunt, grieving the loss of their family’s matriarch, and his own dreams of leaving Pine Apple. With the arrival of a stranger, Griffith’s carefully constructed walls of shame and silence begin to come down and his life takes an unexpected turn.
