Indigenous people in the Arctic and Subarctic regions in North America were using native copper long before the introduction of industrial smelted materials by Europeans. Dr. H. Kory Cooper (Purdue University) will provide an overview of copper use in the Arctic and Subarctic regions based on archaeology, archaeometallurgy, and indigenous oral history. This talk is a part of Indiana Archaeology Month, a statewide celebration of the science of archaeology. Learn more about Indiana Archaeology Month at https://www.in.gov/dnr/historic/3674.htm.
