Art Barn School of Art will host a bird-themed drop-in art day for families on Saturday, May 18 from noon-4pm. Admission is free for ages 5 and up with a parent, please register at www.artbarnschool.org/registration. This is the second of four free programs made possible by the Dunbar Family Foundation.
We are truly grateful to the Dunbar Family Foundation for funding a series of four Seasonal Family workshops. Previously these family programs were tuition-based, and we are thrilled to provide greater access to art through these free programs through the end of 2024. We will also be offering a "Fall/Harvest Workshop in October, and the popular "Holiday Upcycled Ornament Workshop" returns in November or December with dates to be announced late Summer.
Mid May is peak migration season for many of the 350+ species of birds that travel through Northwest Indiana each year. With its rural location and 69 acres, Art Barn is an ideal setting for budding birders to see both some familiar backyard birds and some migrating visitors. Families can work on a paper collage bird mobile or garland, learn a little more about some of our feathered friends, and see pollinators in action in Art Barn’s “Monarch-Maker” gardens.
As a part of Indiana Audubon’s 2024 Indiana Dunes Birding Festival, which will attract around 1000 bird enthusiasts to the Duneland area from May 16-19, "We are thrilled to be included as a birding activity site," states Melissa Washburn, Program Manager at Art Barn. "We have many programs that tie arts and nature and being a part of this event aligns perfectly with our initiatives. This is the first time we have been directly involved with the festival and we look forward to continued partnership with Indiana Audubon Society." There is separate registration through the festival website where adults can register to go on a guided birding hike at the Art Barn during the afternoon.
