The week of April 8th, the annual “Caps for K-9s” fundraising visits were held at St. Paul’s Lutheran School, St. Thomas More School, Eads Elementary School, Frank Hammond Elementary School, and Elliott Elementary School.
Students and staff were invited to donate $1 in order to wear a hat throughout the school day with all of the money going towards the care of our four K-9’s: Vader, Lucy, Skye, and Ozzy. As a way of saying “thank you” our K-9 Unit officers (Officer Alex Reillo, Officer Brett Scheffel, Officer Brad Riemerts, and Officer Matt Serba) brought their dogs to the schools and walked them through the schools while the students and staff lined the hallways.
St. Paul’s also held a coin war that week to raise additional funds for the K-9 Unit, and St. Thomas More presented each of the dogs with their own bandana displaying the school’s logo. The Munster Police Department would like to thank our elementary schools for this great showing of support for our K-9 Unit.
