Though we weren't able to gather in person this year, we hope you'll join us for a virtual discussion next month about Northwest Indiana's unique positioning as major hub for transit- and connectivity-oriented development.

Topic:  How Leadership Can Leverage Core Assets - Roadways and Railways; Runways and Harbors; and High-speed Broadband Networks - to Spur Connectivity-Oriented Economic Development in Northwest Indiana

Speaker:  Phil Burgess, PhD, author, columnist, speaker, and advisor to leaders of business, government, and non-profits. Former public management and administration professor, association executive, think tank executive, and C-suite executive in global media-communications companies in the US and Australia. And a native of Indiana - born in Lebanon; raised in Lafayette.

Description:

Northwest Indiana has the mix of ingredients required to create a high-performance region, beginning with its location "in the middle of everywhere" with connections to the rest of the world by road, rail, and water assets - so important to commerce, trade and human settlement since the 18th century. Over time, locational assets have expanded to include robust air and digital connections plus advanced educational institutions and business enterprises - all of which are key elements of the New Economy that is emerging in the wake of COVID-19. These resources - people, space, technology, knowledge institutions, digital connectivity, and capital - present an exceptional opportunity for a coalition of public, private and non-profit civic leaders to reshape and accelerate NWI's economic, social and cultural development.  Dr. Phil Burgess has been a thought leader in public policy, telecommunications, and economic development for decades, and his writing plus hands-on leadership was influential in shaping the economic development of the Mountain West during the energy-boom years and after. Hear how NWI can leverage its unique location, connectivity, and other assets so that its people and enterprises can act now to flourish in the years ahead.
