The Auditorium (Chicago’s landmark stage at 50 E. Ida B. Wells Drive) proudly announces an upcoming performance by Mariachi Vargas De Tecalitlán with special guest Lupita Infante Friday, September 12th at 7 PM. Tickets start at $60.00 and are available at auditoriumtheatre.org or by calling The Auditorium’s Ticket Service Center at 312.341.2300.

The world-renowned Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán is bringing their 2025 El Legado tour to Chicago, representing the best that música mexicana has to offer. Known as ‘el mejor mariachi del mundo’ (the greatest mariachi in the world), Mariachi Vargas was founded in 1897 by Maestro Gaspar Vargas in the town of Tecalitlan, Jalisco, Mexico. During the mid-twentieth century, the group saw their greatest growth under the musical and artistic direction of Maestro Rubén Fuentes who took the traditional sounds of mariachi and revolutionized the genre into the first-rate quality music we hear today.

Throughout the golden age of Mexican cinema, Mariachi Vargas performed in nearly 200 movies alongside beloved personalities such as Pedro Infante, José Alfredo Jimenez and Jorge Negrete. The group was also influential throughout the recording of Linda Ronstadt’s Grammy Award—winning album Canciones de Mi Padre and most recently participated with international superstar Luis Miguel on his two Grammy Award—winning mariachi albums México en la Piel and ¡México Por Siempre!. Mariachi Vargas has captivated audiences throughout the world with their pristine musical talents, incomparable vocals, and mesmerizing stage presence. Today, the group celebrates over a century of being the most influential mariachi group in history. Under the musical direction of Carlos Martinez, the current sixth generation represents a level of world-class entertainers.

Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán is joined for their performance at The Auditorium by Lupita Infante. With an elegant and graceful style reminiscent of Mexico’s classic mariachi crooners, recording artist Infante brings a sensual and soothing vocal contrast to the bold sounds of regional Mexican music. A big part of Lupita’s artistry is paying tribute to the tradition and beauty of her heritage, while also providing a youthful bicultural perspective to the regional Mexican genre.

“We are thrilled to welcome Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán and Lupita Infante to The Auditorium,” said The Auditorium CEO Rich Regan. “This is a must-see experience for audience members of all ages looking to experience and enjoy a celebration of Mexican music, heritage and culture.”
