Join Humane Indiana Wildlife for a family-friendly day of bird-themed fun at our 2nd annual Birds of Prey Jamboree event. Learn about bird of prey species that call Northwest Indiana home!

Meet LIVE birds of prey, including hawks, owls, and falcons! Greet our NEW avian ambassadors! Be amazed as you learn about these magnificent creatures during presentations from experts throughout Indiana. This event will feature several presentations to attend and a large vendor area to shop!

  • Get an all-access pass to attend all presentations - 3 for $25.00.

10:00-11:00 a.m. - Birds of Prey in Northwest Indiana

Join the staff of Humane Indiana Wildlife to learn about our LIVE bird of prey ambassadors, featuring a Snowy Owl, Barred Owl, Red-tailed Hawk, and American Kestrel!* We will discuss the species' natural history and what brought that particular individual into our care at the rehabilitation center. During the presentation, our team will also give tips on how to help protect these magnificent predators and how to coexist with birds of prey in urban areas.

12:00 - 1:00 p.m. - Indiana Audubon Society

Join Indiana Audubon Society member Matt Kalwasinski for a presentation on the various types of raptors, including hawks and owls, that can be seen in Northwest Indiana. Matt will cover basic identification tips and give suggestions on where to find these incredible species of birds in our area.

Matt Kalwasinski is a high school Psychology teacher and lifelong resident of Lake County, Indiana. Matt is an active member of both the Dunes-Calumet and Indiana Audubon Societies. In addition to giving presentations, Matt can often be found leading field trips and conducting citizen-science surveys on birds. Matt loves traveling with his wife and son, exploring the continental United States, and always keeping an eye out for birds.

2:00-3:00 p.m. - Differences in Hawks, Owls, and Falcons
