Enjoy a Sunday afternoon performance of the Symphony’s Flute Ensemble, Sunday, April 21 at 2:30pm at the Theatre at the Center in Munster. The concert will feature Cindy Fudala, Maria Schwartz, and Lisa Targonski.

Enjoy a relaxing Sunday Afternoon concert featuring members of our orchestra! They will play a variety of musical styles on pieces like Celtic Suite, Ruby Street NOLA, and Birds, and will feature a number of different types of flutes. There will be a reception for all ticketholders with the musicians after the concert.

Cynthia Fudala is currently Principal Flutist of the Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra, the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra, the Whiting Park Festival Orchestra, the Evanston Chamber Opera, and the New Chicago Wind Quintet, which has appeared on the Dame Myra Hess Recital Series at the Chicago Cultural Center, a performance broadcast on local television, on WFMT-FM in Chicago and syndicated nationally over the internetCindy has been a Concerto Competition winner and featured soloist with university and professional orchestras in Illinois, Indiana and Ohio, and was a regular soloist on a Bach Cantata series in Chicago. She is currently the Flute Professor at Valparaiso University and Concordia University Chicago. She received her BM degree in flute performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and an MM and Certificate in Performance degrees from Northwestern University.

Maria Schwartz is second flute of NISO, a position she’s held since 2011. Originally from Vermont, she attended music school in Potsdam, New York and Cleveland, Ohio. Maria regularly performs with other professional orchestras and collaborates with musicians throughout the Chicago area. As a trained Suzuki Flute teacher, Maria inspires many young flutists through private instruction.

Lisa Targonski-Cisneros holds a Bachelor of Music Degree in Flute Performance from the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago, and a Graduate Diploma from St. Louis Conservatory of Music. Lisa has played flute/piccolo with the Northwest Indiana Symphony since 1981, and has also performed with Illinois Philharmonic, Chicago Sinfonietta, Chicago Chamber Orchestra, Lake Forest Symphony, Ravinia Festival Orchestra and the Elgin Symphony. Along with performing live broadcasts on WFMT and WBEZ, she has toured with the American Wind Symphony and performed with The Moody Blues, Kansas, Mannheim Steamroller, Marvin Hamlisch, Shirley Jones and the Temptations. Recordings include Hymns for Trombone and Flute, and 9 CD’s performing on Solo flute and Piccolo with the National Flute Choir. Along with performing in various chamber ensembles, Lisa also teaches private flute lessons in the Chicagoland area. She is also a Certified Dementia Practitioner working as Memory Care Coordinator for Park Place of Elmhurst as well as Certified Therapeutic Musician with Hospice patients on a daily basis.
