The Spring Fest of Silent Films continues at the Michigan City Public Library, Saturday May 3rd, 2 PM (CST), with a showing of PRINCE ACHMED featuring both an original score by Dan Schaaf and local actors as voice-over artists.

PRINCE ACHMED is a 1926 German silent film, considered the first full-length animated film, based on tales from "One Thousand and One Arabian Nights". It tells the story of a prince tricked by a magician into riding a magical flying horse, leading him on a series of adventures with characters like Aladdin and a witch, a giant multi-legged monster, ultimately falling in love with Fairy Princess Peri Banu and returning home triumphantly. The film is known for its beautiful silhouette animation style using intricate designs and vibrant colors.

Dan premiered his Achmed at The Nest gallery in Michigan City and later performed it live with a troop of local actors at the Coastline Children's Film Festival in St. Joseph, Michigan. The music for PRINCE ACHMED is a mix of enchantment and drama fitting the scope of the film. Dan has composed scores for several silent films that feature actors doing the dialog including "Aelita, Queen of Mars, the Silent Movie Musical" and "Dr. Mabuse".

The fest concludes on Saturday June 7 at the Michigan City Public Library with the silent, underwater classic 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA.
