Snowflurry 2024 was held Saturday, March 16th at Wilbur Wright Middle School. This event, which has been held for about 30 years in Munster, included 290 fifth grade students being lead by over 100 Munster High School students in a variety of different fun and educational activities aimed at drug prevention, bullying prevention, and treating others with respect. It was one of the largest events yet.
Activities included games, small group activities, positive peer mentoring, and a community service station run by the Munster Junior Woman’s Club where the participants decorated delivery bags with positive messages for Meals on Wheels recipients and also heard about the importance of helping others. The event, which ended with a closing ceremony attended by parents, was also supervised by elementary building principals, fifth grade teachers, and our department’s three School Resource Officers.
We would like to thank the Munster Junior Woman’s Club for their continued partnership, Sandra Pietruszka (Eads School nurse) and Amy Mohr (Frank Hammond parent) who generously volunteered to serve as our on-site nurses, our participating school staff members for their leadership and supervision, the Eads PTO, Elliott PTO, and Frank Hammond PTO for donating water.
We also appreciate the Wilbur Wright Middle School custodial staff, Munster Donut, Jewel Osco, and the students’ parents for their support as well as the many hard-working and dedicated high school student volunteers who made the day fun and memorable for the fifth grade students. Thank you as well to Dr. Ingrid Schwarz-Wolf from the Munster School Board for visiting the event.
The Munster Police Department appreciates the continued, positive partnership that we have with our public and parochial schools and look forward to continuing to working with them on future community policing events. We hope that the students had a great time!
