Tourists and Chicago residents looking for an exciting view of The Windy City will want to plan an outing on Big Bus Tours.

Big Bus Tours is currently celebrating its 10th anniversary in Chicago. The company offers a Sunset Live Tour once again this season as well as a Hop On-Hop Off version of its city excursion.

“The Sunset Live Tour celebrates Chicago in the golden hour, “ said John Curran, senior vice president and general manager of Big Bus Tours. Curran called Chicago an “ever-changing and dynamic city” with spectacular scenery and attractions he’s happy to spotlight on Big Bus Tours.

On The Sunset Live Tours, which last 1 hour and 45 minutes, riders will travel across the city from downtown to the North Side’s Lincoln Park, Museum Campus and other locales while hearing tales of the city’s history and learning about the toddlin’ town’s special attractions, famous buildings and more.

Curran said Chicago residents as well as tourists will enjoy learning about the city on the tours. He added the Bus Tours attract a great many people who call Chicago home. They often learn facts about the city they've never known or see new buildings and attractions that have recently emerged on the scene.

“If you haven't been down here (in Chicago,) for a couple of summers, there's a lot of new things. It's always changing,” said Curran.

During a recent Sunset Live Tour, the tour guide provided witty and often humorous commentary about the city. The bus journeyed past a variety of places including Lincoln Park Zoo, The Board of Trade, The Chicago Theatre, The Planetarium, Chicago's Water Tower and much more. It traveled down Lake Shore Drive, Michigan Avenue, State Street and Rush Street. Riders definitely got many great views of the city from the open top bus.

The Sunset Live Tours run through Oct. 18 . Tours depart from and return to 618 N. Clark St., which is at Clark Street and Ontario. Cost is $49.50 for adults and $35 for children ages 3 to 12.

The schedule for the Sunset Live Tours is:

  • 7:30 p.m. through July 31
  • 7 p.m. from Aug. 1 to Aug. 21
  • 6:30 p.m. from Aug. 22 to Sept. 11
