SAUGET, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers finished off a nine-game roadtrip, one of the longest in franchise history, by dropping a 7-1 decision to the Gateway Grizzlies on Thursday night.
Gateway scored single runs in the second and third before adding three in the fourth and two in the sixth. Schaumburg did not have a hit from the second inning until the eighth and finished with just six in the game. The Boomers were able to break up the shutout in the ninth when Kellum Clark coaxed a bases loaded walk. Schaumburg walked eight times in the defeat. Derek Salata struck out six, including the final four batters he faced, but suffered the loss after working five innings. Despite losing the contest and the series, the Boomers come home with a winning record on the journey (5-4).
The Boomers (40-35) return home tomorrow night for Marshmallow Fight Night presented by Residential Heating and Cooling. The game will also feature postgame fireworks and a drone show.
