FLORENCE, Ky. — The Schaumburg Boomers were limited to just two hits in dropping the middle game to the Florence Y’Alls by an 8-1 final on Wednesday night in Kentucky.
Florence opened the scoring for the second consecutive contest, plating a single run in the bottom of the third after neither team had logged a hit to that point in the contest. Schaumburg starter Hunter Hoopes was forced to leave the game in the fifth inning and Florence added a single run in the bottom of the frame to lead 2-0. The Boomers finally recorded a hit and a run in the top of the sixth. Alec Craig led off with a walk, the first leadoff batter to reach for the Boomers in the game, and Travis Holt followed with a single. Following a sacrifice bunt, Chase Dawson was able to put the Boomers on the board with an RBI groundout, plating his 61st run of the year.
The Y’Alls kept adding on, grabbing a single insurance run in the seventh to lead 3-1 before busting out with five runs in the eighth on five straight hits to lead 8-1.
Hoopes worked four innings and allowed just one unearned run on four hits with two walks and six strikeouts but suffered the loss. Schaumburg has not led in the series. The team did draw seven walks with Kyle Fitzgerald and Blake Grant-Parks both walking twice. Holt and Will Prater both extended their hitting streaks to 11 games.
The Boomers (52-39), having already secured a playoff slot for the third consecutive year, will play for the final time on the road tomorrow night at 5:33pm. LHP Antonio Frias (3-1, 4.91) will take the mound for the Boomers against RHP Ross Thompson (1-3, 9.22). The team is back at home for Labor Day weekend to conclude the regular season slate beginning on Friday night with Postgame Fireworks.
