The Chesterton Art Center announces new art classes this fall. Katie Wiley guides kids and teens through comic book creation and enhancement. Emily Casella works clay with kids, and ‘busts’ out a new figurative ceramics class for adults and teens, and Jen Aitchison offers a monthly visual arts program for preschool to teen artists. Mindy Milan is also back with the popular warm glass fusing class for adults. Perfect for holiday gift making!
Comics I for ages 6-11 with Katie Wiley Sat, Nov 6, 13, and 20, 2021, 10:00–11:30 AM This 3-week introductory comics class is open to children ages 6-11 and will teach basic story structure. Students will create their own 3-part story with original characters and will learn to lay out their comic book and finish with coloring. Each young artist will create a 2-3 page comic book from their imagination. Tuition for the Comic I class is $75 for non-members and $65 for current CAC Family Members. All supplies are provided.
Comics II for ages 12+ with Katie Wiley Sat, Nov 6–Dec 11, 2021, 12:30–2:00 PM Comics II is a great 5-week class for those that wish to build on their comics knowledge or who want to challenge themselves with improving their storytelling. Students ages 12 and up will dive deeper into their understanding of comics by learning to script their own story, develop characters, organize thumbnails, ink their comic and use color effectively. On the last day, students will swap their 4-8 page comic books and share their stories with one another. Tuition for the Comic II class is $75 for non-members and $65 for current CAC Family Members. All supplies are provided.
Ceramic Figurative Bust Workshop with Emily Casella Sat, Nov 13, 14, and 20, 2021, 10 AM–Noon Get ‘ahead’ in your figurative ceramic sculpture skills by learning how to make character head busts with Emily Casella. Choose from existing people or characters, or invent your own! This workshop for adults and teens will run Saturday and Sunday November 13th and 14th from 10 AM to noon, and then again on Saturday November 20th from 10 AM to noon. Tuition for non-members is $95, and $75 for current CAC members. All materials are provided, and the workshop is limited to six students.
Kids' Clay with Emily Casella Sat, Dec 4, 11, 18, 2021, 10–11:30 AM Kids ages 6-12 years old can celebrate the holidays and winter solstice while preparing for the hot chocolate season! Kids will create their own ceramic pinecone cup and saucer! Join Emily Casella this December for a 3-week session to learn how to hand-build cups and slab roll pine needle saucers! Class will meet for three Saturdays Dec 4, 11 and 18 from 10 - 11:30 AM. Tuition for non-members is $95 and $75 for current CAC Family members. All materials are provided, and class is limited to 8 students.
Monthly visual arts program with Jen Aitchison Every month Miss Jen explores a different art historical theme or topic to inspire young artists in the creation of their own work. Students explore painting, drawing, and printmaking techniques and processes along with learning art elements. Classes are offered for preschoolers through teens on a weekly schedule to accommodate busy family lives. Tuition is $90/month for non-members, and $70/month for current CAC Family Members.
Warm Glass Fusing with Mindy Milan Sat, Dec 4, 2021, 1–4:00 PM Join us on Saturday December 4th from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM for this fusing workshop to create jewelry-size pieces, small plates, garden stakes, and other items utilizing several glass forming techniques. Watch some glass melt in the kiln, and learn about the forms, colors and processes of fusing glass. Tuition is $45 for current CAC members and $55 for non-members. A $15 material and firing fee is payable to the instructor at the beginning of class. All materials are provided.
