Chesterton Art Center’s (CAC) May exhibition “Material Truths: Heidi Bailey + Liz Roetzel” runs through May 31st. In “Material Truths,” Heidi Bailey and Liz Roetzel use assemblage and collage to explore craft and décor, rigorously and playfully reframing
materials traditionally associated with “women’s work.” Both artists transform and layer materials into thoughtful, conceptual pieces that examine our connections to memory, nature, and one another.

Bailey and Roetzel employ similar processes, combining unexpected objects and images to create striking narratives—at times beautiful, at times disorienting—where materials defy expectations, resulting in works that are fresh, provocative, and wholly new.

“I'm very excited to bring Heidi Bailey and Liz Roetzel as first-time exhibitors to CAC for a thoughtful and poignant exhibit in our galleries.  Their vibrant and colorful works lure us into much deeper and layered narratives around domesticity, resistance,
and how we navigate the world and relationships that surround us. We're thrilled to present this exhibit that will speak to folks on many levels.” said Hannah Hammond-Hagman, CAC Executive Director.

A Third Friday Artists’ Reception for “Material Truths” will be held on Friday, May 16, 4–7 PM. All exhibition events at CAC are free and open to the public. Additionally, this will be Downtown Chesterton’s first Third Friday of 2025. CAC loves participating
in Third Fridays and contributing to a vibrant community! We hope you’ll join us for the reception and see all that downtown Chesterton has to offer!

“Material Truths” can be viewed during CAC’s normal business hours: Mon–Fri, 11 AM–4 PM + Sat, 11 AM–2 PM. CAC is closed on Sundays. For more information about CAC and CAC exhibitions, please visit ChestertonArt.org or call (219) 926-4711.
