Major League Baseball and the Chicago Cubs today announced the tentative 2020 regular season schedule. The Cubs will open their 145th season at Milwaukee against the Brewers Thursday, March 26, with the home opener taking place Monday, March 30, against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The 2020 schedule features Interleague Play against three American League East opponents at Wrigley Field: the Baltimore Orioles (June 2-3), the Boston Red Sox (June 19-21) and the Tampa Bay Rays (July 3-5). The annual Wintrust Crosstown Series with the Chicago White Sox will take place July 7-8 (at Guaranteed Rate Field) and July 20-21 (at Wrigley Field).
The 2020 schedule also is highlighted by the team’s first-ever trip to London, England, to play a pair of games as the visiting team against the St. Louis Cardinals (June 13-14). This trip is the Cubs’ first games overseas since opening the 2000 season against the New York Mets in Tokyo, Japan.
Down the stretch, the regular season concludes with division rivals visiting the Friendly Confines: the Cincinnati Reds (September 4-6), the Pittsburgh Pirates (September 14-17) and the St. Louis Cardinals (September 25-27).
To provide an earlier start for families during the school year and address fan feedback favoring an earlier start time, the Cubs are piloting a 6:40 p.m. start time in 2020 for weeknight home games to be played before Memorial Day and after Labor Day. The 6:40 p.m. start time currently affects 10 weeknight home games in March, April, May and September. By starting games earlier on school nights, we hope to make it easier for families to enjoy a full game at the Friendly Confines or while watching at home, regardless of the time of year. The 7:05 p.m. start time will resume for weeknight home games scheduled between Memorial Day and Labor Day when most kids are out of school.
