Chicago Fire FC (11-7-6, 39 points) fell 2-1 against the New England Revolution (13-8-4, 43 points) Sunday afternoon at Soldier Field.

Chicago is in fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings, just one point behind fourth-place Charlotte and five points ahead of Orlando City SC.

New England scored on either side of halftime, in the 39th and 47th minutes, to go ahead 2-0 before Chicago responded in the 62nd minute to cut the lead in half. Maren Haile-Selassie combined with Robin Lod and Philip Zinckernagel just outside the box, with Lod dropping a pass from Zinckernagel to the top of the arch. Haile-Selassie timed his shot and sent a laser to the lower left corner for his team-leading eighth goal of the season.

A late surge was not enough as a second Haile-Selassie tally was called offside late in the second half.

NEXT MATCH: Chicago next embarks on a two-game road stretch, first traveling to face Nashville SC on Saturday, Sept. 19. Kickoff is set for 8:30 p.m. CT at GEODIS Park. The match will be broadcast globally on Apple TV, and transmitted locally on wlsam.com in English and TUDN Chicago 106.7-HD2 and Uforia by TREBEL app in Spanish.

Match Notes:

  • Winger Maren Haile-Selassie has scored five goals in his last five matches, and leads the current team with eight goals during the regular season. His eight assists place him second on the team so far in 2026.
  • Winger Philip Zinckernagel’s assist on Haile-Selassie’s goal was his team-leading 10th of 2026, ensuring his second straight season with double-digit assists.
