Chicago Fire FC will spend the week on the road, visiting Central Florida for a match against Orlando City SC on Wednesday, Aug. 19 before heading north to New Jersey to take on Red Bull New York on Saturday, Aug. 22.

Coming off a perfect record in Leagues Cup 2026 bookended by two regular season victories at Soldier Field, Chicago enters the week on a five-game winning streak across all competitions. After defeating reigning Liga MX champion Cruz Azul on Thursday night, the Fire returned to MLS play on Sunday to face the Portland Timbers. They continued their hot form almost immediately, taking a 2-0 lead before the quarter-hour mark thanks to goals by Robin Lod and Dje D’Avilla. Although Portland halved the deficit, the Fire held on for the 2-1 victory, the fifth in a row and 100th all-time regular season win at Soldier Field.

Up next for the Fire is a primetime matchup against Orlando City SC, which followed its elimination from Leagues Cup 2026 with an exciting 1-1 draw against FC Cincinnati on Saturday. Pavel Bucha put the visiting Orange-and-Blue up one in the 23rd minute. But the Lions roared back within three minutes of the opening whistle in the second half as Tyrese Spicer beat Bucha to the ball before winning a one-on-one with the Cincinnati goalkeeper for the tie. The match was Orlando’s third without a loss out of its last four in the regular season, corresponding with the arrival of World Cup champion Antoine Griezmann to the club.

Red Bull New York will follow just three days after hosting a midweek match against Supporters’ Shield leaders Nashville SC. New York has endured an uneven season, alternating wins and losses in its last five matches. Following a 3-2 win over Orlando on August 1, the Red Bulls returned from a week off to take a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute of a road match against Atlanta United FC on Saturday night. Emil Forsberg’s goal was the difference until the 69th minute, when Tristan Muyumba tied the game. Fafa Picault then struck in the 82nd minute to complete the comeback for Atlanta, keeping New York in eighth place of the Eastern Conference.

MAtch Notes

  • With the 2-1 victory against Portland, Chicago recorded its first five-game winning streak across all competitions since 2000, when the Fire won four in a row to end the regular season before winning the first of a three-game series against the Dallas Burn. A win against Orlando on Wednesday would give the Men in Red the most consecutive victories across all competitions since 1998, when they rattled off 11 in a row in regular season play before winning their first-ever U.S. Open Cup match against Chicago Stingers on July 6.
  • Philip Zinckernagel returns to Orlando on Wednesday for the first time since May 31, 2025, when he recorded a career-high three goal contributions in the 3-1 victory for Chicago. The next time the Danish winger faced Orlando, he became the first Fire player to tally multiple assists in a postseason match since 2005, helping Chicago open the 2025 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs with a 3-1 win on October 22 at SeatGeek Stadium.
  • After assisting Djé D’Avilla on his game-winning goal against Portland, Maren Haile-Selassie is now tied with Zinckernagel for 13th in the list of players with the most goal contributions in Club history. Their 43 combined goals and assists are four away from 10th place, currently held by Hugo Cuypers and Josh Wolff.
  • Chicago enjoys a 33-23-16 edge all-time against Red Bull New York. The 32 wins are the most against any MLS team in Club history, while the 110 goals scored by the Fire are most against any team other than the New England Revolution (111).
  • Saturday’s match will be the 73rd regular season meeting between Chicago and New York, dating back to the Fire’s fifth game in Major League Soccer – a 1-0 loss to the team then known as the Metrostars at Soldier Field on April 17, 1998.
