Chicago Magic Lounge, Chicago’s home for close-up magic, is proud to welcome back its first-ever Artist-In-Residence, David Parr, with his latest show Magical Thinking as part of its ongoing Artist-In-Residence series this summer! Magical Thinking takes a closer look at the human desire to experience things that make us feel a sense of awe and how magic provides a respite from the pressures of the everyday world. David Parr has been thinking about magic for more than fifty years. It began at age seven when he received a magic set as a gift. Since then, he has brought the experience of mystery and wonder to audiences worldwide. David's relationship with the Lounge goes back to 2018 when he was the first artist-in-residence when the venue opened its secret doors. His show, David Parr's Cabinet of Curiosities, was a hit and ran successfully for a year until the spring of 2019.
Come and join us for an enchanting evening celebrating the power of magical thinking. We'll imagine the impossible is possible, with objects vanishing or transforming, time seemingly rewinding, hidden thoughts being revealed, and spooky spirits making an appearance! Along the way, we'll delve into games and storytelling, history and folklore, and the mind of a true master of the art of magic!
About the Artist
David Parr is an internationally acclaimed performer known for his theatrical style and mastery of the art of magic. When he isn't busy mystifying guests at corporate functions and private events or performing at Hollywood's prestigious Magic Castle, he devotes his time to theatrical endeavors. Around Halloween, David can often be found haunting atmospheric locations with shows such as Haunting History, a guided tour of the shadowy territory where history meets myth and folklore, or Visions of Poe, an interactive journey into the tales and poems of Edgar Allan Poe. David created and costarred in Chicago's longest-running weekly magic show, which the Travel Channel chose as one of the top nine magic shows in the nation! (Because top-ten lists are so passé.)
David has published several highly regarded books for magicians, been a technical consultant to many theatrical productions, given presentations at academic conferences, and provided guidance and instruction to magicians at lecture appearances across the United States and Canada. For the last decade or so, he has been a featured columnist, proofreader, and copy editor for the world's top magic journal. His thought-provoking writings about the art of magic have also been featured in publications in the UK, Germany, France, Australia, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Sweden.

Featuring entirely original magic designed by Ondřej himself, the highly interactive and engaging 52 Lovers promises an evening of laughter, awe, and astonishing entertainment.
Ondřej Pšenička (ON-dray zeh-NEET-skuh) is a renowned magician who has enchanted audiences worldwide for the past two decades. Known for his original magic effects and impish personality, Ondřej is thrilled to bring his one-man show, 52 Lovers, to the Chicago Magic Lounge stage. A magic creator and true vanguard in the art of card magic, Pšenička designed every magic effect in this show–you won't find magic effects like this performed by anyone else in the world.
