What if the story of Romeo and Juliet wasnβt really about Romeo and Juliet?
This November, Chicago Repertory Ballet brings back The Capulets β our acclaimed original story ballet that turns the spotlight onto the family at the center of Shakespeareβs most famous tragedy.
November 5β8, 2026
The Ruth Page Center for the Arts

Conceived and choreographed by Wade Schaaf, The Capulets takes us inside the Capulet household, where hidden passions, betrayals, ambition, and family loyalties collide.
At the center is Lady Capulet β trapped between duty and desire β whose secret relationship with Tybalt threatens to unravel everything her family has built.
With an original score by Matty Mattsson and immersive projection design by SPAN Design (John Pobojewski and Zach Minnich),Β The Capulets is a cinematic, emotionally charged ballet unlike any traditional telling of the classic tragedy.
The 2025 world premiere received enthusiastic praise from Chicago critics:
βPure revelry and a visual feast for the audience.β
β SeeChicagoDance.com
βThe visual is stunning, as is the choreography.β
β Third Coast Review
βItβs not just a tragedy, itβs a soap opera!β

And The Chicago Tribuneβs Lauren Warnecke included The Capulets among her Best of 2025 Dance Performances.
Now, we're bringing it back for a limited four-day engagement.
