As a top priority of the Pendleton Correctional Facility administration, multiple areas are ramping up communications between the facility, staff and offenders to provide current facility and housing unit statuses. Additionally, administration continues to educate staff and offenders on how to protect oneself and others through the use of personal protective equipment and sanitation. Pendleton Correctional Facility continues to provide de-escalation tools to staff and offenders to assist in resolving issues within the workplace and housing units.
Uncertainty can exacerbate both staff and offender’s fear of the unknown leading to anxiety and conflict. Warden Dushan Zatecky provides a daily update, via email, to all staff addressing essential information and statistics while re-entry staff are visiting offender housing units to answer questions and follow up on issues presented by the offenders to ease the burden on custody staff. The use of the offender tablets has proven to be an asset to share information with the offender population, along with posting information on the offender TV channel. Staff arriving to the facility are provided with updates on the facility slide presentation located in the Administration Lobby.
Additionally, staff from various departments have been reallocated to assist custody staff inside the facility and in numerous work areas to enhance security and ensure all essential services are provided to the offender population.
“With an emphasis on sanitation, the use of personal protective equipment, communication and cooperation, we are all working together to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus to protect our staff and the offender population," stated Warden Zatecky.
