Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD) is a leading health concern in the United States, with an estimated 8.5 million people affected, according to the National Library of Medicine.
Community Healthcare System is hosting the “A Look Beyond the Heart” PVD symposium and health fair from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19 at St. Mary Medical Center, 1500 S. Lake Park Ave., West Entrance, Hobart.
Podiatrist Jared Moon, DPM, and Interventional Cardiologists Anas Safadi and Kais Yehyawi, MDs, will host a panel discussion focusing on the signs, symptoms, causes and treatment of PVD, including new innovations and treatments for vascular disorders. Free screenings will be offered, including 30-second atrial fibrillation (A-Fib) test, blood pressure checks, diabetes risk assessment and more.
PVD is a common vascular condition that occurs when veins or arteries are narrowed or blocked. These blockages usually are due to a buildup of plaque, eventually leading to inadequate blood supply to the limbs and/or organs.
