The Indiana Arts Commission (IAC) is partnering with the Indiana Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and local partners around the state to improve the economic resilience of creative small businesses through the Next Steps Creative Business Training Program. Throughout July and August, over 250 creative entrepreneurs across the state will be equipped with entrepreneurship training, a creative community network, and a direct bridge to their regional Indiana SBDC through regionally hosted Next Steps Creative Business training opportunities.

“Indiana’s creative entrepreneurs play a vital role in making our state a place where people want to live, work, play, study and stay,” said IAC Executive Director Miah Michaelsen. “We are grateful for the partnership of the Indiana Small Business Development Center in supporting arts-based small businesses.”

The local trainings are led by Regional Arts Partners of the Indiana Arts Commission. In total, nine trainings will take place around the state. The local partners and their training dates are below:

  • Arts United, Wednesdays July 6 – Aug. 10, 2022 (Fort Wayne)
  • Nickel Plate Arts, July 21 – 23, 2022 (Noblesville)
  • Arts Illiana, Aug. 6, 2022 (Terre Haute)
  • Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana, Aug. 9, 2022 (Evansville)
  • Madison Area Arts Alliance, Aug. 10, 2022 (Madison)

  • Randolph County Community Foundation and Muncie Arts & Culture Council, Aug. 13 - 14, 2022. (Muncie)
  • South Shore Arts, Aug. 18, 2022 (Gary)
  • The Arts Federation, Aug. 19- 21, 2022 (Lafayette)

The trainings are designed for creatives who are either currently generating revenue from their creative practice and want to expand their business, or for those who don’t currently generate revenue from their creative practice and want to learn how to. Creatives may attend more than one training and all trainings are free of charge and open to creatives from anywhere in the state.
