TimeLine Theatre is happy to announce a second extension of An Enemy of the People, the inaugural production at the company’s new home at 5035 N. Broadway in Chicago’s Uptown community.
Originally scheduled to close June 7, TimeLine’s Chicago premiere of Amy Herzog’s new version of Henrik Ibsen’s historic masterwork was already extended through June 14 due to popular demand. Consistent enthusiasm from ticket buyers and critics have spurred this second and final extension, through June 27. For tickets and information, call the TimeLine Box Office at (773) 281-8463 x1 or visit timelinetheatre.com.

Timeline Theatre’s new home (left and center), located at 5035 N. Broadway in Chicago’s Uptown community is now open. TimeLine’s inaugural production, An Enemy of the People (right), has been extended again due to popular demand, and is now running through June 27.
TimeLine Theatre’s An Enemy of the People brings a 144-year-old literary classic forward to today, and speaks directly to our times about what it means when citizens stand up to power. When a respected doctor in small-town Norway makes a deadly discovery that threatens the health of the entire village, he raises the alarm. But as local leaders—including his brother, the mayor—scramble to protect their own interests, the truth becomes inconvenient, and the doctor finds himself the target of the very community he’s trying to protect. Winner of the 2024 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Adaptation, this vibrant new version of An Enemy of the People asks: what happens when doing the right thing means losing everything?
The Chicago Tribune gave An Enemy of the People four stars, calling it “a masterful first play in TimeLine's new home.” The Daily Herald’s four-star review described TimeLine’s An Enemy of the People as “superb” and “timely as ever." Newcity said it’s "an excellent production and a great way to christen the new home of a company focused on history." The Chicago Reader simply called TimeLine’s inaugural production “transcendent.”
