
Tippecanoe County, Ind. – This evening, just before 8:00 p.m., the Indiana State Police and the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a fatal crash on Interstate 65 southbound near the 176.5-mile marker.
A preliminary investigation conducted by Trooper Schroder revealed that a 2023 Audi SQ5 was traveling southbound on I-65 when it was rear-ended by a semi-truck. Initial findings indicate that the Audi was either slowed or stopped in the roadway at the time of the crash. After the impact, both vehicles traveled off the west side of the roadway and down an embankment.
Despite lifesaving efforts, the driver of the Audi was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Tippecanoe County Coroner’s Office. The identity of the deceased will be released by the coroner’s office once proper identification and notifications have been made. The driver of the semi-truck sustained minor injuries.
This investigation is active and ongoing and is subject to change as more information becomes available.
Trooper Schroder was assisted at the scene by other troopers from the Lafayette Post, the Indiana State Police Crash Reconstruction Team, the Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division, the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office, the Tippecanoe County Coroner’s Office, Tippecanoe County EMS, the Tippecanoe Township Fire Department, and the Lafayette Fire Department.
