Filament Theatre presents The Lightbulb Lab, a weekly at-home activity toolkit for kids and families. Each volume of The Lightbulb Lab is full of games and ideas to spark creativity while providing opportunities for kids to process and express their emotions through play, writing, and conversation. Toolkits based on new themes are published weekly at 12PM CST Sundays and can be downloaded free of charge as long as Chicago Public Schools remain out of session. To get your copy and start playing at home, visit http://www.filamenttheatre.org/lightbulblab/.
Filament’s digital resource was first published on April 9, 2020 in response to the COVID-19 outbreak and was developed with input from parents, caregivers and the Filament Advisory Council, which is made up of young people ages 7-12. Filament’s surveys showed that young people and adults are both in need of ways to process their feelings around this pandemic and its impact on their lives and communities. Surveys further showed that families are hungry for easy, creative activities to spark imagination and change up their routines. Out of these needs came The Lightbulb Lab, allowing kids to travel in their imaginations and become the artists-in-residence of their own homes.
The Lightbulb Lab is curated by Filament Artistic Director Julie Ritchey and developed in partnership with teaching artists and theatre for young audience professionals.
