Although The Taffetas features the sounds of The McGuire Sisters, The Fontane Sisters and The Chordettes, among others, the four sisters really reminded me of the Lennon Sisters who appeared frequently on the old Lawrence Welk Show – my parents’ favorite.
The Taffetas are sisters Kaye (Adina Lockwood), Peggy (Sydney Morefield), Donna (Jordan Holmes) and Cheryl (Daisy Obregon). Each of the sisters has at least one solo, and there are a couple of duets, but mostly they sing together.

The song list includes Sh-Boom, Mr. Sandman, Tonight You Belong to Me, Mockin’ Bird Hill and Sincerely, as well as a couple of medleys. The most recent song in the show is Little Darlin’.
The Taffetas was conceived and written by Rick Lewis. It premiered Off-Broadway in 1988. It’s been a regional theater favorite, but Lewis withdrew it from performance for several years. Canterbury Assistant Artistic Director David Graham told me they snapped it up as soon as it was re-released.
The Taffetas runs through August 1st at Canterbury Summer Theatre, 807 Franklin Street, Michigan City. Street parking is available and free. Running time is approximately 85 minutes, with an intermission.

Performances: Wednesdays & Thursdays at 2:00 pm, Fridays & Saturdays at 7:00 pm. Please note that the final Saturday performance will be a 2:00 pm matinee, instead of an evening show, due to the Block Party & Boat Parade downtown.
