On Tuesday, Oct. 14, the Indiana Historical Bureau dedicated a new state historical marker commemorating the Indiana State Library. The marker caps off a year of programming related to the State Library’s bicentennial. It highlights the institution’s growth over the last 200 years and examines its impact on education, culture, state government and on other libraries across the state.

Speakers at the event included State Librarian Jacob Speer, Historical Marker Program director Casey Pfeiffer and Indiana Library and Historical Board president Laurel Setser.

"This new state marker serves as a lasting and tangible reminder of the Indiana State Library’s rich history. For those who are unfamiliar with the institution, we hope this marker serves as an introductory point to learning more about the Indiana State Library and how groups and individuals can use its collections, services and spaces. Libraries are treasure troves that not only help safeguard our state and local records for future generations but in doing so preserve our cultural heritage and offer learning opportunities for people of all ages," Pfeiffer said.

The marker is part of the State of Indiana Historical Marker Program, administered by the Indiana Historical Bureau, a division of the Indiana State Library.

The marker is positioned near the entrance of the Indiana State Library, located at 315 W. Ohio St. in downtown Indianapolis.
