In celebration of its 125th anniversary, Chicago’s Field Museum partnered with Journeyman Distillery to produce an artisan gin made from botanicals introduced at the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition. “Distilling is all about history and preservation,” says Journeyman owner, Bill Welter. “Using the world’s oldest flavors to create the finest spirits is exactly what Journeyman is all about.”
Field Gin features 27 ingredients from the original fair, including lavender and juniper berries as well as prickly ash, anise, mango, ginger, coconut palm sugar, pineapple, papaya, valerian root, cinnamon, coriander, horehound, star fruit and charoli nuts.
After the success of Field Gin, Journeyman and the museum added two more spirits—Field Rye, sweetened with Black Mission Fig; and Field Vodka, distilled from Illinois-grown Bloody Butcher corn (and Certified Gluten-Free). The latter was awarded Double Gold and Best in Class medals at the prestigious 2019 Seattle International Spirits Awards.
The Field Spirits 3-pack includes 200 ml bottles of Field Gin, Field Vodka, and Field Rye. The box set will be available at Journeyman’s Three Oaks, MI distillery as well as the Field Museum and select Chicago area retailers.
