Brian Ayersman, a first-grade teacher at Eads Elementary School, has been recognized for his outstanding commitment to students and the community with the Extra Yard Game Ball Award from the College Football Playoff Foundation.

A retired Munster Police Officer turned educator, Mr. Ayersman is known for going above and beyond both inside and outside the classroom. In addition to teaching first grade, he leads a group of fourth- and fifth-grade K-Kids guiding students as they participate in meaningful community service projects throughout the year.
Under his leadership, the K-Kids have collected donations for the Munster Kiwanis by volunteering outside a local grocery store. They also spearheaded the school’s annual cereal box drive for the Salvation Army, resulting in more than 350 boxes of cereal donated to families in need across the community. Before winter break, Mr. Ayersman led students in creating special Christmas cards for residents at the Residences at Deer Creek senior living facility. These tactile cards, designed with varied textures and colors, help provide comfort, reduce anxiety, and support cognitive and emotional well-being for seniors.
In the classroom, Mr. Ayersman challenges his first graders with engaging novel study units centered on student interests. His hands-on approach to STEM education encourages curiosity and builds strong foundations in science, technology, engineering, and math. Students describe him as both fun and caring, and his passion for learning is evident in the success of his classroom.
Whether supporting young learners or serving the wider community, Mr. Ayersman truly exemplifies the spirit of the Extra Yard Game Ball Award. His dedication makes a lasting impact on students, families, and the Munster community as a whole.
