State Road 53 will be reduced to two lanes. During phase one of the project, the northbound lanes will be closed, and the southbound lanes will be converted to two-way traffic.
The ramp from northbound State Road 53 to westbound I-80/94 will be closed for approximately one month starting June 22 so drivers will need to seek an alternate route. The official detour will utilize State Road 53/Broadway, I-80/94 and Central Avenue.
Northbound State Road 53 traffic will be able to exit to eastbound I-80/94, and southbound State Road 53 traffic will be able to exit to westbound and eastbound I-80/94 as normal during phase one.
This project is expected to be completed in mid-September, 2020.
INDOT urges drivers to stay alert near crews and follow traffic directions carefully. Drivers are encouraged to allow extra time when driving through this area. Drivers should slow down, use extra caution and drive distraction-free through all work zones.

About Next Level Roads
“With a sustainable, data-driven plan in place to fund roads and bridges, Hoosiers can rest assured that Indiana will remain the Crossroads of America for generations to come.” – Governor Eric J. Holcomb
Governor Holcomb’s Next Level Roads plan is a fully-funded, data-driven investment in Indiana’s transportation infrastructure. Implemented in 2017, Next Level Roads dedicates more than $60 billion to construction and maintenance projects for at least the next 20 years to improve and maintain Indiana’s state highways, finish major projects, and plan for the future. The plan fosters partnerships between the state and Hoosier cities, towns, and counties to deliver high-priority local road projects. Next Level Roads is enhancing Indiana’s economic edge and the quality of life for all Hoosiers. View our interactive Next Level Roads construction map at www.nextlevelroads.com.
