Have You Tried NoveList Plus?
A powerful search tool designed to answer the age-old question: What should I read next?
You Asked, We Answered!
Question: Many children are struggling to learn to read. What sort of reading guidance does the library offer for children who aren't yet in school?
Answer: This is a great question. Supporting early literacy is one of the most important functions of the library.
We get started even before children are old enough to read! The library endorses the Every Child Ready to Read initiative, which fosters pre-literacy skills that will set kids up for success when they are old enough to read on their own. The books on our shelves, the events we hold (like storytime and Mother Goose on the Loose), and even the toys in our youth areas have been carefully planned to help kids build their pre-reading skills.
We also offer digital resources that support pre-literacy, like ebooks that both show the word and read it aloud. And each of our locations has special kid-only computers - learning stations designed for kids ages 2-8 supplied with educational games. And don't forget ABC Mouse, an award-winning online educational tool for kids available for use in the library for free!
