Tue, 10/27/2026 - 4:12pm by laughingcat

The La Porte County Symphony Orchestra will open its 54th season with “Arabian Nights” which will culminate in Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Scheherazade” on Saturday, November 7, 2026, 7pm Central Time at the Civic Auditorium in La Porte.

Music Director, Dr. Carolyn Watson, will lead the LCSO in three selections in the first half of the concert.

Mozart’s Overture to “The Abduction from the Seraglio” will open the concert. South Bend Symphony Principal Oboist, Jennet Ingle, will then join the Orchestra for two selections; “Gabriel’s Oboe” from the movie, “The Mission” followed by the mysterious Baroque Oboe Concerto by Madam Laschanzky.

Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Scheherazade” will be performed on the second half of the concert. This symphonic suite based on “A Thousand and One Nights” also known as “Arabian Nights”, features dazzling, colorful orchestration and was written to produce a sensation of fantasy narratives from the Orient.

This concert will also feature three Student Apprentices; two of them making their first appearance. Isaac Anabe, violin, of La Porte High School and Lincoln Knauff, Tuba, of Valparaiso High School, will be making their first appearance with the LCSO. They will be joined by second year Apprentice, Mya Moore, flute, of La Porte High School.

Single tickets are $38 for table seats, $27 for balcony seats and $24 for senior (60 and over) balcony seats. These can be purchased by going to LCSO.net

Tickets will also be sold at the door. Students are admitted for free.

Sweet treats by “BETTY SWEETS” will be available for purchase. Doors to the Civic Auditorium will open at 6pm.
