Dear McCullough Academy School Community,

We hope that you are taking time for rest and enjoyment during Spring Break. Meanwhile, our team has been working diligently to develop a plan while tornado damage to the school is being assessed and ultimately repaired. Thanks to the valuable input of the McCullough team, the next steps are in place.

During the week of March 31 - April 4, all staff, administrators, teachers and students will report to the Gary Area Career Center, 1800 E. 35th Avenue in Gary at their regularly scheduled times.

Students in grades K-2 will receive instruction in the Industrial Clinic, while students in grades 3-5 will be in assigned classrooms to ensure an environment accommodating to standardized testing.

Students who are driven to school

Parents who drive their scholars to school are asked to drop them off between 7:15 a.m. - 7:30 a.m. and pick them up at 2:30 p.m. daily.

Students who walk to school

Students who walk to school should arrive at McCullough Academy daily no later than 7:15 a.m. and gather on the sidewalk in front of the school. Buses will be on site to transport walkers to the Gary Area Career Center. A staff member will be on each bus to ensure proper supervision of all students.

The bus will transport walkers back to McCullough at the end of the school day with students arriving back at the school building between 2:45 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Students who ride the bus

Students who ride the bus will be picked up at their usual stops at regularly scheduled times and transported to the Gary Area Career Center. They will be transported back to their bus stops at the conclusion of the school day. (Download the FirstView bus tracking mobile app  at Garyschools.org/transportation to monitor the location and timing of your child’s bus.)

All students will receive breakfast and lunch, and any other accommodations required to ensure that effective teaching and learning takes place.

Thank you for your patience, and we will continue to provide periodic updates to this plan as information is received regarding the restoration of impacted areas of the school property. Should you have any further questions, please call the school directly (Phone lines have been transferred to the Gary Area Career Center).

We also invite you to check the McCullough Facebook page, Skyward, Class Dojo, garyschools.org, robocalls, e-blasts and WGVE 88.7 FM for other periodic updates and general announcements.

Enjoy the remainder of your Spring Break, and we will see you Monday, March 31st.

Sincerely,

Gary Community School Corporation Leadership Team
