This past month, the Munster Police Department received word from the National Association of Town Watch that last year’s National Night Out Against Crime Celebration, which was held on August 1st, was ranked by their organization as the #5 event in the United States (in our population category of 15,000-50,000 residents). In addition, Munster’s National Night Out event was the only Indiana community to receive top national ranking in any of the population categories.
The National Night Out is celebrated in hundreds of communities around the United States each August as a way of promoting positive police and community partnerships. Our event continues to grow each year thanks to great support from our community.

We greatly appreciate the many volunteers, booth participants, attendees, and sponsors for helping to make this year’s event the best one yet. We especially appreciate Mr. Greg Kaplan from Krazy Kaplan’s Fireworks for providing a closing fireworks show the past nine years and our Choice Community Council and event volunteers for their time and efforts. Our event continues to be successful thanks to the hard work and support of many individuals and we will be receiving our recognition plaque very soon. Plans for this year’s event will begin during the coming months.
If you would like to help plan or volunteer during this year’s event, please contact Officer James Ghrist at 219-836-6639 or jghrist@munster.org.
