The Musical “Young Frankenstein” by iconic Mel Brooks will be opening at the Marian Theatre Guild starting weekends in November.  (Saturdays at 8:15pm Nov. 5,12,19 and Sundays at 3pm Nov. 6, 13, 20)

This is the first Fall musical the Guild has done since the pandemic so they wanted something really hilarious and over the top to bring back live theatre in Whiting.

“Young Frankenstein fits the bill. “I mean it IS Mel Brooks, for cryin’ out loud,” joked Betty Jo Diaz, Co-Director.”

With a company of 25 actors and singers, the special treat for the audience will be the dance numbers.

“We have dancing monsters,” added DeeJai Halicky, co-director.

Both DeeJai and Betty Jo have directed at the Guild before  as well as spent time on the boards in many shows.  .  This diverse cast comes from a number of different cities including Munster, Dyer, Hammond, Lake Station and Whiting bringing incredible amount of experience to the show.

Both Halicky and Diaz agree that the humor in the show is similar to the duo’s own sense of humor, describing it as “dark and quick.”

Featured in the show are Elliot Bibat, David Arroyo, Kaitlin Kovach, Caroline Herrera, Thomas Knoerzer,  Ray Huntington, Shannon Hayes, Travis Ziegler, and Ken Bobos.  Rounding out the cast are Ensemble members Susan Bobos, Emily Yovich, Tony Vivacqua, Bridget Choe, Olivia Rhodehamel, Amanda Koch, Kristin Gorski, Alexis Cameron-Heckler, Alayna Prisby, Wendy Lung, Angela Avorio, and Richard Nordyke

Scenic Design is Marty Dybel with Costume design by Stephane Naumoff.

Tickets are $17 adults and $15 for students/seniors.  For reservations call 219-473-7555.   The Guild is located at St. John the Baptist School in Whiting, entrance on 119h Street.
