Through this NOFA, NIRPC announces the availability of an estimated $130.5 million in federal transportation funding for Lake, Porter, and La Porte counties and the municipalities and transit operators within those counties, in accordance with the federal surface transportation law, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA).
Funds are available for highway and transportation infrastructure projects as well as transit operating, preventive maintenance, and capital costs, that will be implemented between 2028 and 2032. Sixty-six project types are identified as eligible for FHWA or FTA funds. Each of the project types are organized into one of thirteen investment programs as identified in NIRPC’s Metropolitan Transportation Plans NWI 2050 and NWI 2050+.
Projects selected for funding will be included in NIRPC’s FY 2028 -2032 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). The TIP will be presented to the NIRPC Board of Commissioners for approval in late spring of 2027, with final approvals by US DOT expected in summer of 2027.
