In a season where racial tension and injustice continue to escalate, seasoned R&B singers/songwriters Charles “La’Roy” Harris and Marx “Anthony” Clark, better known as La'Roy Anthony, are offering a musical solution with their latest release "Inner-City Blues."
The hit is a rewrite of the 1971 record first performed by legendary soul singer Marvin Gaye.
"Our song not only addresses police brutality, but other social issues and injustices that we are still fighting decades later," said Harris.
The edgy, catchy lyrics depict urban life as we know it today while tackling the issue of Black men being abused and killed at the hands of those who have been hired to serve and protect.
"We thought it was important to get back to the type of music that not only offers a message but a call to action," said Clark. "As we head to the polls for one of the most important elections in recent history, we have to make our voices heard."
With "Inner City Blues" only being released in July, the reaction has been extremely favorable. The views and downloads on a steady rise, and these innovative artists couldn't be more pleased.
"We are using our talents to inspire others in a way that is not combative yet could potentially be revolutionary," said Harris. "In every stage of history, music was always there, and it always will be."
Harris and Clark hail from Chicago and Indianapolis respectively and have been in the music industry since 2000. They continue to work with a vast array of artists under the New Leaf Entertainment Label with an impressive portfolio of signature sounds including R&B/Soul, Gospel and Smooth Jazz.
