The Munster Police Department would like to remind our community members that when requesting police assistance or reporting suspicious activity all of your calls are answered by the Lake County Dispatch Center in Crown Point. 911 calls have not been answered at Munster’s police station since county-wide dispatch was consolidated several years ago. 219-836-6600 is NO LONGER the non-emergency number.
If you need emergency police assistance or would like to report suspicious activity, please CALL 911 right away to report it. If you would like to report non-emergency issues you can call 219-660-0001. Always make a voice call when you can.
Also, did you know that YOU CAN TEXT 911? Texting 911 should only be used if you can’t make a voice call or if a voice call would put you in danger. To do so, select “new message”, put 911 in the “to” field, put your emergency and your location in the message body, do not attach or send pictures or videos, and keep your message short while not using abbreviations. After you enter your text, press “send” and then continue your dialog with the 911 center while following their instructions.
If you are having any issues with 911 service, please contact the dispatch center at 219-660-0001 and ask to speak with an administrator. You can also contact an administrator at the Munster Police Department with the date and time that you were having issues and we will try to assist.
