This is the 31st Annual Snowflurry Event, which is held as an extension of the Munster Police Department’s Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) Program and encourages drug prevention, bullying prevention, and treating others with respect.
Over 300 fifth graders participated last year and were led in a variety of activities by over 150 Munster High School student volunteers. The activities will include games, snacks, crafts led by members of the Munster Junior Woman’s Club, skits, small-group mentoring, and a closing ceremony which can be attended by parents of the students involved. The event also includes school principals, teachers, mascots, and school resource officers and each participant will receive a commemorative Snowflurry t-shirt.
Permission slips will be distributed to students this week by fifth grade homeroom teachers, and must be completed by a parent and turned in along with $10.00 by no later than January 23rd. No late permission slips will be accepted.
Munster High School students who would like to volunteer can begin signing up on January 7th in Student Services at Munster HS, near Officer Isenblatter’s office door. There is a limit of 160 volunteers so please sign-up ASAP if you would like to participate.
Please encourage your fifth grade student to participate this year! For more information, please contact your child’s teacher or Officer James Ghrist at 219-836-6639 or jghrist@munster.org.
