St. Catherine Hospital’s Advanced Inpatient Diabetes Program has earned recertification from The Joint Commission by demonstrating continuous compliance with performance standards.

This recertification recognizes healthcare organizations that provide clinical programs across the continuum of care for diabetes. The commission evaluates how organizations use clinical outcomes and performance measures to identify opportunities to improve care, as well as to educate and prepare patients and their caregivers for discharge.

St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago recently underwent a rigorous onsite review that included observations and interviews. During the visit, a team of Joint Commission reviewers evaluated compliance with related certification standards. The certification was awarded the next day, and it will remain in effect for two years.

“This certification is a testament to the amazing care and dedication of our staff and diabetes team,” St. Catherine Hospital CEO Leo Correa said. “They work hard every day to provide the best possible outcomes for our patients.”

Joint Commission standards are developed in consultation with healthcare experts, providers and patients.

“Inpatient Diabetes Certification recognizes healthcare organizations committed to striving for excellence and fostering continuous improvement in patient safety and quality of care,” said Ken Grubbs, executive vice president of Accreditation and Certification Operations and chief nursing officer for The Joint Commission. “We commend St. Catherine Hospital for using The Joint Commission certification process to reduce variation in clinical processes and to strengthen its clinical program to drive safer, higher quality and more compassionate care for individuals.”
