The Munster Police Department and Choice Community Council would like to thank each of this year’s National Night Out sponsors, attendees, and booth participants for being a part of this year’s event which was held Tuesday, August 2nd.
The event is held annually to promote positive police and community partnerships. The event included a large number of both fun and educational activities, including over 110 booth participants and many participating student clubs, teams, and organizations in both our parade and the main event.
There was also swimming, door prizes, kids games, a bounce house, K-9 demonstrations, a helicopter landing, emergency vehicle displays, giveaways, crime prevention information, student performances, music, food vendors, a parade, and an awesome closing fireworks show that was generously sponsored by Greg Kaplan from Krazy Kaplan’s Fireworks.
The American Red Cross also held a blood drive with a large number of donors and our Munster Junior Woman’s Club both monitored our bounce house while also passing out a large number of bicycle helmets to children.
In addition, over 120 child identification cards were made for parents to carry in the event that their child becomes missing.
Our police department’s annual Citizenship Awards were also presented during the event to four residents and one business for their ongoing support for our community policing efforts and programs.

In addition, our inaugural Block Unity Awards were presented to representatives from those neighborhoods and signs have been put up on their blocks.
A photo album is available on the Munster PD’s Facebook page. Thank you again to everyone for making this year’s event the best one yet!
