EXHIBITION SUMMARY
This year, in response to our query—how can artists use their creative voices in uncertain times—ten artists offer their perspectives on hope, caution, and responsibility toward self, community, and world issues in the MBACD’s exhibition VOICES: The MBACD Annual Community Show. With works in painting, drawing, mixed media, sculpture, photography, fiber art, and jewelry.
While each of the 10 artists shares common ties to Gary and has never exhibited at the Gardner Center before, their art and artistic backgrounds are as different as the creative voices they offer. For some, this is the first time they’ve exhibited their art anywhere…others have shown work extensively, in a variety of venues and locations. Some have had no formal art training, while others have advanced degrees in fine arts. The artwork reflects creative inspiration that ranges from the kitchen table at home with a box of crayons… to coursework at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. VOICES offers an exciting mix of creative perspectives!
The exhibition taking place at the Marshall J. Gardner Center for the Arts opens with a reception on Friday, Dec 5, at 6 pm. The artists will participate in a talk about their work on Sunday, Jan, at 1 pm. Both events are free and open to the public.
