A special announcement about Black Girl From a White Suburb: Finding My Light Using My Voice will be made at the event.
Tania Richard grew up in an all-white suburb of Chicago, where she spent her days dodging microaggressions, striving to fit in, and yearning to see herself represented. Her transformation began when she was cast as the Caterpillar in "Alice in Wonderland." On stage, she discovered her superpower. She no longer had to blend in; instead, she felt confident, free from boundaries, and empowered to go beyond others' narrow vision of her. With a blend of cautionary tales, antiracist provocation, and humor, Tania takes on the leading role in a culture that often relegates Black women to supporting characters.
Tania Richard is an award-winning actress, author, and keynote speaker on the topics of inclusion and belonging. Her memoir, Black Girl from a White Suburb: Finding My Light, Using My Voice, is scheduled for release on September 2, 2025. Her podcast, “Tania’s Take,” explores pop culture and current events from an intersectional perspective. Her TV credits include “Chicago Fire,” “Chicago PD,” and “Chicago Justice.” Tania made her Broadway debut in Steppenwolf Theatre’s The Song of Jacob Zulu and has performed with Goodman Theatre and The Second City, among others. She is an Artistic Affiliate with American Blues Theater and the company’s Inclusion & Belonging Consultant.
