April 9 is Local News Day, a national moment to recognize the role local news plays in sharing information about issues close to home.
Local news outlets provide coverage of local government decisions, public services, schools, environmental concerns, and community programs—information relied on by residents, nonprofits, and community leaders. While Lake County continues to have multiple local news sources, research shows that many communities across Indiana and the country do not.
In recognition of Local News Day, Legacy Foundation is highlighting Press Forward Lake County, a new initiative focused on supporting access to local journalism and community information. Press Forward Lake County will officially launch on May 28, bringing together local partners to better understand the local news landscape and explore ways to strengthen it.
