IDEM is offering Indiana businesses free, practical resources to help local businesses cut costs and reduce waste.
The Indiana Pollution Prevention (P2) Toolkit Program focuses on helping small businesses and manufacturers reduce or eliminate pollution at the source by establishing current best management practices for using water, energy, air, raw materials, and other resources efficiently.
This program is open to all Indiana-regulated entities and includes free topical information sheets, checklists, access to live webinars, and confidential compliance assistance provided by IDEM's Compliance and Technical Assistance (CTAP) staff.

Oil and water separators (OWS) are used across a variety of industries and play an essential role in keeping operations safe and efficient. OWS systems come in several shapes and sizes but most rely on gravity and the natural differences in the densities of oil and water to filter out oil and debris contamination.
Ensuring an OWS system remains clean and leak-free prevents the buildup and emulsification of oil and sludge. If left unfiltered, these substances can leach into soil and groundwater, harming humans and wildlife. Preventive maintenance remains one of the most effective strategies for managing pollution at its source.
The Indiana P2 Toolkit module on Oil and Water Separators will highlight best management practices for maintaining these systems. The module includes a live webinar, a short video, an information sheet and a companion checklist.

What is the Indiana P2 Toolkit?
The goal of the Indiana P2 Toolkit and its component parts is to encourage Indiana-regulated entities, particularly small- and medium-sized businesses, to implement best management practices (BMPs) for Pollution Prevention (P2) into their day-to-day operations. BMPs utilize resources (raw materials, water, energy, and air) efficiently and use less harmful or less toxic substances to reduce or eliminate pollution at the source.
