TheatreSquared charges into its landmark 20th season with a swashbuckling, laugh-out-loud adventure: Ken Ludwig’s The Three Musketeers. This high-octane take on the Alexandre Dumas classic bursts onto the West Theatre stage with swordplay, romance, and riotous comedy. The show opens August 20 at TheatreSquared (477 W. Spring St., Fayetteville), and runs through September 7 with 7:30 pm performances Tuesday through Saturday and 2:00 pm matinees on Saturday and Sunday. The Guardian says the show is a “slick, swashbuckling romp that cleverly updates the Dumas novel... distilling its energy and strengthening its timeless appeal,” while Venue Magazine wrote, “Ken Ludwig's script is fairly groaning with giggles. In short, about as much fun as you would expect, and then a little more.”
For Broadway veteran Rick Sordelet, directing this show is a labor of love—the T2 production marks the third time he’s been at the helm for this script.
“I love Ken's take on this wonderful classic,” he said. “He's made compelling additions to the story which further enhances the adventure and ignites the imagination of the audience. Ken also has the ability to mine the most universal part of humanity, which is humor. It's a fun show that has hilarious moments with a healthy dose of romance and a peppering of heartache. The action and swordfights are incredibly exciting.”
Speaking of swordplay: Sordelet said that element is top-notch in T2’s production.
“Christian Kelly-Sordelet is a master fight director,” he noted. “His ability to feather each fight in TheaterSquared's production with genuine storytelling pathos is genius. He’s an excellent instructor who is able to pull the best out of everyone in the cast. These are truly the best fights I've ever seen because they hit the audience in the funny bone as well as the heart.”
