The Chicago Gay Men’s Chorus (CGMC) presents Cher the Love, an energetic tribute celebrating the music and legacy of Cher, timed with her upcoming 80th birthday on May 20. Featuring more than 250 members, the concert showcases Cher across the decades with hits including “If I Could Turn Back Time,” “Believe,” “Strong Enough,” and many more, all performed with a full band onstage.
Audiences can expect an evening filled with music, dancing, and staged scenes that bring Cher’s story and sound to life. The production features multiple dance numbers, incredible visual moments, and costumes that are truly out of this world. CGMC members have been rehearsing since January to deliver a show that captures both the scale and spirit of Cher’s career.
Cher has long been a staple in the LGBTQ+ community, celebrated not only for her artistry but for her outspoken support of LGBTQ+ people over the years. Cher the Love honors that connection and highlights the ways her music and presence have resonated across generations and helped shape queer culture and visibility.
“This show is a celebration of an artist who has meant so much to our community,” said CGMC Managing Director Kevin Corbett. “Bringing together more than 250 members to honor Cher’s incredible career makes this production feel especially meaningful.”
Artistic Director James J. Morehead added, “Cher’s catalog is filled with songs that audiences instantly connect with. This concert leans into that connection and celebrates her lasting impact.”
Cher the Love invites audiences to experience the music and legacy of one of pop culture’s biggest icons in a concert that is both a tribute and a celebration.

ABOUT CHICAGO GAY MEN’S CHORUS
The Chicago Gay Men’s Chorus (CGMC) has been an integral part of Chicago’s cultural and gay communities since 1983. For more than three decades, the chorus has entertained audiences across the continent with innovative musical programming exploring everything from love to politics to the sometimes fabulous, sometimes challenging world of being gay; often all at the same time. Our always-memorable performances have included original musical revues; full-length book musicals; traditional choral concerts and intimate cabaret presentations; all punctuated with our signature joyous irreverence. Chicago Gay Men’s Chorus was inducted into the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame in 2001. Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs presented CGMC with the 2023 award for Outstanding Achievement in Arts and Humanities in honor of LGBTQIA+ history month in October 2023. The Chicago City Council passed a resolution celebrating CGMC’s 40th Anniversary in December 2023, and the Chorus was recognized by Mayor Brandon Johnson.
